Director, Retail Accounting (1787)
The Director, Retail Accounting reports to VP Corporate Controller. Position is open due to an internal promotion. This person will manage a staff of 4 direct Managers and 6 Staff and Sr Accountants. It will be an in-office position 4 days/week.
Responsibilities:
- Month end close: Manage the monthly financial closing, consolidation and reporting processes for the retail business
- People leadership: Ensure that the accounting function is managed effectively and efficiently and is ready to adapt to demands and changes in the business, including acquisitions, reorganizations, store growth initiatives, lease transactions, and system changes
- Retail financial system and reporting: Ensure reports and systems meet the needs of the account teams and business stakeholders
- Maintain internal control structure: Ensure the development and maintenance of an effective internal control structure within respective areas of responsibility, including internal controls over the financial statement close process, lease accounting, fixed assets, and financial reporting
- Monthly key account review: Conduct monthly review of key accounts with Controller and division financial management, ensuring all unusual items and variances are identified, investigated, and communicated
- Lead periodic balance sheet review: Ensure all balance sheet accounts are accurate, reconciled, well-supported and sufficient to cover identified risks and liabilities
- Ongoing support and analysis: Help facilitate decision making by retail and real estate teams, including reviewing accuracy of new store pro formas, relocations, lease renewals and store closing/go-dark decisions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in accounting required; CPA strongly preferred
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferable within retail or multi-location environments
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams
- Prior public accounting experience a plus
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 842 Lease Accounting
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational, supervisory and leadership skills, including team building, development, coaching
- Proven ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of management and cross-functional teams
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- Experience with SAP, S/4 HANA, or equivalent enterprise accounting systems preferred
Compensation:
- Salary $150-180,000 depending upon experience plus bonus and 401k, health benefits and PTO
