Millennials entered the workforce at an interesting time. The Great Recession made finding a job next to impossible, and the internet was transforming the way people do business. Despite the hurdles they had to overcome, many Millennials were able to start meaningful careers.

SmartAssest, a personal finance technology company, looked at data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Current Population Survey to find what jobs are most popular among millennials. Here’s what they found:

Statistician

Millennials came of age in the workforce at a time when companies began to put greater value on big data. So it should be no surprise that 44 percent of statisticians are between the ages of 25 and 34. With their advanced knowledge of technology and innate ability to learn new technology, millennials are tailormade for this profession.

Bartenders

It shouldn’t come as a shock that millennials make up a substantial portion of this fast-paced, physically demanding job. Of the 454,000 bartenders in the US, 42 percent are millennials. While the median salary for a bartender is $20,800 per year, it can still be a lucrative profession. Depending on location and clientele, some make upwards of $50,000 annually. And many leave the profession once they’ve earned their diploma, open their own business, or are promoted to management.

Financial Analyst

Having lived through the Great Recession, many millennials have sought the stability of a career in finance. Jobs in this industry are traditionally less likely to be cut during corporate downsizing. Plus, unlike other jobs that have experienced wage stagnation, financial analyst positions continue to pay very well, with an average annual salary of $82,000. Perhaps this is why 41 percent of financial analysts are millennials.

Advertising and Promotions Managers

Companies are always looking for ways to attract a younger demographic. That’s why many have hired millennials to help market their product or service. In fact, 40 percent of advertising and promotions managers are millennials.

Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics

As an EMT or paramedic, you are constantly dealing with high-stress, high stakes situations. Which is why 38 percent of them are millennials — the demands of the profession are better suited for younger people. And, like many other millennials, this job doesn’t require getting saddled with massive college loan debt. EMTs and paramedics typically only need a special certification.

Web Developers

It should surprise no one that 37 percent of web developers are millennials. This generation has a ton of experience with the internet and technology in general. Many grew up with computers and learned to code at an early age.

Television, Video and Motion Picture Camera Operators and Editors

With the enormous popularity of streaming services, like Netflix and Hulu, and the increased importance of online video for marketing, the demand for television, video and motion picture camera operators and editors has exploded in recent years. Millennials’ tech skills and familiarity with video has led many to enter this field, with 37 percent of camera operators and editors in the millennial generation.
