Are You All Ears? (part 2)

Last week we discussed sitting back and listening during an interview rather than talking about yourself until you’re blue in the face.
This week we’re going to talk about researching the company you’re interviewing with prior to your interview.

Know company issues.
Do all the research you can on the company and industry issues. Becoming knowledgeable on the company will give you an opportunity to ask questions that other candidates may not, and to explain how you’d solve particular issues.

Utilize your contacts.
If you’ve got contacts at the company (that you’ve talked to within the last year) give them a call and ask questions about the company so you’re prepared when you are asked questions during the interview.

They are benefiting from you.
Companies want to know what’s in it for them – so tell them! Only by listening closely will you be able to tell them exactly how hiring you will benefit them.

Show gratitude.
Thank the people that helped you to research the company – after all, they could be part of the reason you land your new job! Be sure to thank the interviewer as well for taking the time to let you learn more about the company.

Good luck on your search!
