Director of Tax (1672)
As the Tax Director, North America, you will be responsible for all facets of taxes for North American entities including tax compliance, research, planning, and provision.
Duties include U.S. and limited international tax compliance and audits. You will develop effective relationships across a complex, dynamic global organization and will primarily oversee the domestic tax function of a global multi-national group headquartered outside the US. Duties include managing both internal and external service providers and staff. International taxation knowledge is needed for transfer pricing, inbound reporting, foreign withholding, and permanent establishment issues.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate, timely preparation and filing of U.S., Mexican, and Canadian federal, state, and local tax returns as well as all other areas of tax compliance in adherence with applicable tax laws
- Establish tax policies necessary to maintain the integrity of US federal and state filings, including nexus considerations, sales & use tax policies, etc.
- Work closely with US and non-US personnel to streamline processes, support the business needs and goals of the organization, and ensure accurate reporting and compliance in each jurisdiction
- Act as a resource and problem solver for tax matters as needed, such as planning, M&A, and tax accounting
- Identify, research, and implement tax savings strategies
- Monitor changing tax legislation and inform senior management of issues affecting financial statement reporting. Technical areas will include direct, indirect, and international tax matters of varying complexities
- Coordinate filing of tax payments, extensions, and estimates
- Oversee sales & use and property tax processes and filings
- Manage completion of information requests from tax inspectors and auditors
- Coordinate transfer pricing studies, foreign transaction analysis and implementation of inter-company agreements
- Manage monthly North America tax provision process including preparation, documentation and return to provision calculations
- Perform IFRS analysis and reporting for deferred taxes
- Develop, lead, manage and motivate staff
- Engage external advisors on issues as required
- Occasional international/U.S. travel
Skills and Experience
- BS/BA in Accounting or related field
- 5+ years relevant tax experience
- U.S. Federal and multi-state income tax experience
- Ability to research, analyze, and provide recommendations to tax policies and procedures
- Highly motivated, positive attitude, self-directed, and assertive
- Hands-on approach with ability to effectively manage through complex issues and relationships
- Strong Excel skills
Desired Skills and Experience
- CPA preferred
- 10+ year of relevant tax experience
- Combined CPA/industry experience
- Avalara or other sales tax compliance software experience
- SAP or large ERP system experience
Salary Range: $160-180,000
Annual Bonus Target: 16%, subject to plan provisions and short term/long term incentives
